What are Sildenafil tablets?

Sildenafil tablets are the generic version of the more common and branded drug called Viagra. It is a non-branded version that is available in the market as an affordable alternative. It can be taken after the doctor’s prescription only and is available in many doses, including 25mg, 50 mg, and 100mg.

How do Sildenafil tablets work?

Sildenafil is an active ingredient and belongs to the phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor class of drugs. It relaxes blood vessels thus increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This improved blood flow to the penis in turn helps achieve and maintain erection.

Moreover, it is important to note that it cannot create a spontaneous erection. Therefore, you needed to be sexually excited or the presence of sexual stimulation for it to work.

How to take Sildenafil tablets

It is recommended to read all the necessary information mentioned in the patient information leaflet or seek guidance from a doctor about dosage and frequency before using. However, some general steps need to be followed:

• You can take Sildenafil tablets with water about 30 to 60 minutes before sexual activity
• You should avoid taking with a full stomach as a larger meal may delay its effect
• Some citrus fruits, like grapefruit, or their juice, should also be avoided
• You should avoid taking more than one dose in 24 hours
• Sildenafil can remain effective for up to 4–6 hours, but it is dependent on the individual and sexual stimulation

Who can take Sildenafil tablets?

Sildenafil tablets are for men only under some conditions, for example if:

• You have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction (ED)
• You are over the age of 18
• You are generally in good cardiovascular health and do not have problems with your heart
• You have already discussed its use with a healthcare professional

Who should not take Sildenafil tablets?

You should not take Sildenafil tablets if you:

• If you have ever had chest pain or deformity of penis
• If you have heart or liver problems
• If you have stomach ulcers or multiple myeloma
• If you recently had a stroke, cardiac arrest, heart attack, or issues with your blood pressure
• If you have eye disorders
• If you have ever had sickle cell anaemia or leukaemia
• Are allergic to Sildenafil or any other ingredients in the tablet
